In part 2 of Guardians of the Galaxy Yondu died. The character Yondu which was played by Michael Rooker says that his return to the MCU will only be possible if he gets to play another role.
Micheal Rooker says that his return as Yondu would kill the charismatic death he had in part 2 of Guardians of the Galaxy. Yondu who showed complex morals in both the Guardians of the Galaxy vol 1 and vol 2 who abducted Peter Quill from Earth which later on was revealed in the series that his abduction was a blessing for Peter in disguise as his own father’s ego would Have caused him death.
Yondu gives up his life for Peter so that he can live his life. This tragic death caused a lot of heartbreak among the audiences and also is by far the most heartbreaking death. Director James Gunn also seems to be very clear on his stance that Yondu is dead now and there is no way possible that he should be brought back in the series vol 3.
Gunn although has said that Yondu can come back as reminisce or memory. It’s also understandable that once a character dies in a series it gives place to the other new characters to come and play their role. Characters that pass away in a series should be remembered not brought back again.
In order to sustain its importance in the minds of the people the character should remain the way it is and let the other characters emerge. Although Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3 won’t be coming anytime soon or in coming years, people are still exhilarated which is understandable considering how well vol1 and vol 2 did. Some of the characters did play their roles in Avengers Endgame, Avengers Infinity War and will be appearing in Thor Love and Thunder which is nowhere coming soon. It’s good to see that both Michael Rooker and James Gunn are on the same page about Yondu not coming back in the series but only to be seen as a memory.
