On Saturday morning Deadline reported, that Joseph Kosinski director of Top Gun: Maverick is ready to direct Netflix’s upcoming Sci-fi film Spiderhead with its heavy cast Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Jurnee Smollett (Birds of Prey) and Miles Teller (fantastic four). Movie story is the adaptation of George Saunders’ short story “Escape from Spiderhead,” Now Kosinki is converting the short story into a feature-length film, the script is written by Deadpool and Zombieland writers team Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick.
Netflix’s Spiderhead is set in the near future where there is a medical facility that gives chance to Convicts to volunteer for medical experiments and in return they can reduce their sentences. Movie story is focused on two prisoners who participate in the testing of a drug that can create feelings of love. It not clear yet what roles these top trios are playing.

It is no doubt that Kosinki has tapped the most experienced cast for his upcoming movie. Netflix hasn’t disclosed Hemsworth, Smollett or Teller’s characters yet but it seems Teller and Hemsworth will play prisoner roles who will volunteer for the medical experiment. Smollett deserved a big break after co-starred in Harley Quinn: Birds Of Prey and played lead role in Underground.
Earlier this year, Hemsworth played a lead role in Extraction an action thrill movie from Joe and Anthony Russo and their production house AGBO. Extraction became Netflix’s most-watched movie ever.
Escape from Spiderhead a Short story from George Saunder which he published in 2013 in his bestselling collection Tenth of December. Spiderhead story was first published in The New Yorker in 2010 and received noteworthy praise for its creative handling of the ideas of love and horror.
