The Crown season 5 won’t release on Netflix until 2022. The Crown tracks the life of Queen Elizabeth II from the time of her wedding in 1947 to Philip Mountbatten, until the early 21st century. The first season represents the events up to 1955 when Winston Churchill resigned as the as prime minister and Princess Margaret the Queen’s sister declined to marry Peter Townsend.
Starting back in 2016, The Crown follows England’s Queen Elizabeth from the start of her reign onward, with the intention of tracking to nearly (but not quite) the present day. Claire Foy initially starred as Elizabeth alongside Matt Smith as her husband Philip and Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret. However, as The Crown continued to move forward through history, Olivia Colman took over from Foy in season 3, which just premiered on Netflix last November. She was joined by Tobias Menzies as Philip and Helena Bonham Carter as Margaret.
It was announced earlier this year, that The Crown season 5 would be the last of the series. Imelda Staunton will be playing Elizabeth for the final season. Peter Morgan the showrunner believed that the fifth season would be enough to complete the story, but it seems that he has changed his mind. He confirmed a few days back that he will go with his original plan of six seasons to do justice to the show. Lesley Manville is also a new addition as Imelda Staunton, Manville will play the role of Princess Margaret, while Philip’s character is yet to be decided.
There was a significant gap between season 2 and 3 of the show and the gap between season 4 and 5 also seem to be a wide one. Due to the pandemic situation season, five is delayed to 2022, but we cannot be sure of anything in this uncertain world. The production of the movie is planned to begin in June 2021. Audiences still are looking forward to season 4 which will arrive later this year.
The Crown is one of those shows which didn’t get affected by the corona pandemic situation. While Netflix stopped production on most of its major upcoming projects like The Witcher, and Stranger Things, The Crown had only one week of filming left which could have been completed without any harm. Thus the filming was completed and now the season four is all set to release this year and enjoy the new episodes.
Even if the showrunners want to start production of The Crown season 5 this year, it would be very risky and difficult to cope up with the current health emergency and remain unaffected. We support the decision of delayed-release but waiting for it would be very difficult! What do you think of this show? Let us know in the comments section!
